Electric Scooters
Types and Advantages of Electric Scooters
Electric scooters are battery-powered vehicles that can carry one or two persons and may be used indoors or outdoors. Some people who have limited mobility have trouble walking or standing for extended periods prefer e-scooters (which are sometimes called mobility scooters) over motorized wheelchairs for a variety of reasons. Modern models of electric scooters are designed to look and function as full-capacity scooters in terms of range and speed. There is also the type of e-scooter that is more for traveling short distances and looks more like a moped than a mobility scooter.
Electric scooters are built in different types to accommodate various user preferences. This type of light electric vehicles is fairly easy to drive and manipulate and are also safe to use.
The main types of electric scooters that are designed to fit a particular user’s need include:
- Foldable electric scooters – This type of scooter is designed to be transportable and is ideal for people who need to constantly travel. The scooter’s body can either be folded or separated into parts which can fit in the back of a car.
- Three-wheeled electric scooters – The three wheels of this electric scooter type provides stability as well as greater comfort to the rider. It can be used indoors and outdoors and can carry up to 300 lbs. Three-wheeled scooters can be easily maneuvered even in tight corners.
- Four-wheeled electric scooters – This scooter type is designed to accommodate the four wheels and provide full stability to the entire body including the rider. This scooter type is intended for outdoor driving with tires bigger than those of other types of electric scooters and can be driven with superior stability even on bumpy terrain.
- Heavy-duty electric scooters – This type is designed with heavy riders in mind – those who weigh above 350 lbs. They are built as three and four wheel models with maximum weight capacity of 500 lbs.
Either for transport or recreation, people prefer electric scooters over the gas-powered versions due to the following major advantages:
- Because electric scooters use battery power, they do not run on costly gasoline and are ecologically acceptable.
- They allow people with limited mobility to move more freely and have better access to their surroundings and desired destinations without assistance. This gives them more confidence and degree of independence.
- They are allowed on buses, planes, and sometimes inside public buildings where gas-powered models are prohibited.
- They require only minimal maintenance.
- They come with full safety features such advanced brake system, locking mechanism, and standard lights.
